Robert “Bob” James McGinn Jr., 85, of West 4th Avenue, died Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The funeral will be at 2:00 PM Friday at First Baptist Church of Lexington by the Dr. Ray Howell III. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. McGinn was born April 7, 1922, in Davidson County to Robert James McGinn Sr. and Ora Elliott McGinn. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1942 to 1946. He was past member of Board of Trustees at Western Carolina University, State ABC Board,and a City Councilman member from 1954 – 1971. He was a member of the Amvets and Hall of fame inductee in 1993 at Western Carolina University and 2006 Hall of Fame in Davidson County. He was retired manager of the ABC Store. He was an avid supporter of the Erlanger Community where he served as recreation director, personal director, lifeguard and little league ball coach and was very active in all aspects of the community he loved so much. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Max Terry McGinn, O.C. McGinn, Howard “Stumpy” McGinn and one infant brother; and two infant sisters. Surviving are his wife, Louise Beck McGinn of Lexington; son, Robert James McGinn III and wife, Patricia, of Clemson, S.C.; daughters, Karon McGinn and Molly Bailey and husband, Alan, all of Lexington; grandchildren, Mark McGinn and wife, Susan, Amanda Piekutowski and husband, Ian, Kristin McGinn, all of Charlotte, Cameron Bailey, Palmer Bailey, and Sheldon Bailey, all of Lexington; great-grandchildren, Caroline McGinn and Jack McGinn, both of Charlotte; and nieces and nephews, Dan McGinn of Greensboro, Pat McGinn of Florida, Linda Lancaster of Garner, Cecilia Jones, Carol Orr, Tommy Beck, Albert Lee Beck, Elizabeth Beck, Martha Walker all of Hendersonville, Quay Beck of South Carolina, Ron McGinn and Missy Link of Lexington and Monty McGinn of Greensboro. The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the church parlor and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Central North Carolina Chapter National Multiple Sclerosis Society, 2211 W. Meadowview Road, Suite 30, Greensboro, NC 27407, and Western Carolina University Athletics, Ramsey Center, Cullowhee, NC 28723.
