Bobby "Bob" James Mitchell, 84, of Davidson County, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 29, 2026.

Born on February 9, 1942, in Iredell County, Bob was the son of the late James Luther Mitchell and Mary Threatte Mitchell. Throughout his life, Bob was known for his dedication to his family, church, and friends. He retired from Stroh’s Brewery after many years of committed service. His greatest joy came from spending time with those he loved, and he supported his children and grandchildren no matter the occasion. Whether cheering from the stands at school sporting events or simply being present in their everyday lives, Bob never missed an opportunity to show his love and pride for his children and grandchildren.

Bob also enjoyed fishing with his friends. Each spring and fall, he looked forward to the fishing trips to Topsail Beach, creating many memories to share with others.

Bob's faith was the foundation of his life. He was a faithful member of Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, where he devoted hours to serving his church family. He faithfully served as Chairman of the Trustees for six years, overseeing renovation projects. He also participated in the Bruce Sally Sunday School class and many fellowship events shared with his church community.

Family was at the heart of everything Bob did. He cherished regular family gatherings and looked forward to family vacations spent together at the beach, where they created memories that will be cherished for generations.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his brothers, Ben Mitchell and Sam Mitchell; and his sister, Lynda Newton.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Linda Essick Mitchell; his sons, Bobby "Jim" Mitchell Jr. (Ceretha) and Jeffrey "Jeff" Keith Mitchell (Tiffany); his daughter, Kristi Wall (Jerry); his sister, MaryAnn Motsinger; his six grandchildren, Chase Mitchell (Carley), Jordan Mitchell (Kaitlyn), Justis Mitchell, Madison Wall, Ayden Wall, and Kaylin Wall; his two great-grandchildren, Collins Mitchell and Carter Mitchell; and his two step-grandchildren, Alisha Moody and Christian Moody.

A memorial service celebrating Bob's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, 1082 Community Road, Lexington, NC 27295, or to Trellis Supportive Care, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
