Bobby Ray Butts, 90, of NC Hwy 150 in Lexington died Sunday, March 15, 2020 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem. The family will hold a private service, but will receive friends at the home from 2-4pm Wednesday, March 18. A public memorial service will be held at a later date. Mr. Butts was born September 26, 1929 in Rowan County to Vernie Arthur Butts and Hazel Tempe Rutledge Butts. He was a graduate of Catawaba College and served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Mr. Butts spent 39 years in education, as a principal at Ocracoke School and later retired from West Davidson High School. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and a sister. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Betty Ann Stokes Butts, of the home; his sons, Len Butts (Jo Ellen) of Denton, Bill Butts (Misti) of Welcome; his daughter, Jane Thomas of Lexington; sisters, Karolyn Chapman (Rev. Gary Chapman) of Winston-Salem, Regina Wright of Charleston, SC; his grandchildren, John Robert Blake, Mary Blake, Thomas Blake, Jake Butts, Joe Butts, and Addie Thomas; and four great-grandchildren.
