Mr. Bobby Van Johnson, 81, of Arden Road, died Saturday, June 4, 2011 at the Hinkle Hospice House.
A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm Wednesday at the Lexington Church of God conducted by the Revs. David Hatcher and Lonnie Daugherty. Burial with military rites will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6-8 pm at the funeral home and other times at the home on Arden Rd., Lexington
Mr. Johnson was born June 17, 1929 in Davidson County to Ervin Hartley Johnson and Georgia Cross Johnson. He was a retired Brick Mason and was a Sergeant in the National Guard from 1948 to 1954. He later served in the US Army during 1954 to 1957 as a Sergeant First Class with the 120th Infantry. He was a member of the Lexington Church of God and was preceded in death by his brother, Billy Johnson, and his sisters, Sylvia Joyce Johnson and Judy Johnson Lomax.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Avery Johnson of the home; his daughters, Donna Shillinglaw and husband, Rex, and Debbi Craver and husband, Freddie, both of Lexington; his brother, Ervin Jack Johnson of Lexington; his sisters, Evelyn Dorsey, Ruth Byerly, and Dorothy Ribelin, all of Lexington, and Edith Hege of Ashe, NC; his grandchildren, Jeremy Shillinglaw and wife, Madara, Hayley Ringley and husband, Daniel, and Taylor Elizabeth Craver; and his great grandson, Matthew Shillinglaw.
