Bobby Leon Kirkendall

Bobby Kirkendall, 66, of Bremen Drive, died suddenly Saturday, April 28, 2007. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church on West Third Avenue, where he was a member, by the Revs. Dr. Ray Howell III and Tommy Wilson. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Kirkendall was born Nov. 30, 1940, in Shelby to James Farris Kirkendall and Mary White Kirkendall. He was very active in his community as well as his church, having served on several committees. He was retired from PPG and a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and was their No. 1 fan. He was on the board of the Pastor's Pantry, a National Guardsman for six years and was an outdoorsman. Mr. Kirkendall was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. Surviving are his wife of 40 years of marriage, Becky Abernathy Kirkendall of the home; a son, Chad Kirkendall and his wife, Holly, of Lexington; a daughter, Kristi Thornhill and her husband, Dave, of Lexington; his mother Mary White Kirkendall of Ocala, Fla; a sister, Joann Rowan and husband Jerry of Ocala, Fla.; and four grandchildren, Lilly Grayson Thornhill, Harrison Luke Thornhill, Sarah Kenan Thornhill and Mary Evann Thornhill, all of Lexington. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Monday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, and other times at the home on Bremen Drive. The family has asked that memorials be made to Pastor's Pantry, 208 E. Center St., Lexington, NC 27292 or to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 436, Lexington, NC 27293.
