Bobby Odell Lanning

Bobby Odell Lanning, 72, of Robert Floyd Drive, died Friday at Lexington Memorial Hospital after declining health of five and a half years and seriously ill for two weeks. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Freedom Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member, officiated by Rev. Clyde Akers. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Lanning was born January 7, 1935 in Davidson County to Luther Odell Lanning and Nellie Hopkins Lanning. He retired from Metal Creations and was a veteran of the US Navy. Surviving are his wife, Norma Gibson Lanning of the home; his son, Bobby Odell Lanning, Jr. and special friend, Elizabeth Asbury of Salisbury; his daughters: Deborah Anderson and husband, Billy, of South Carolina, and Donna Myers, and husband, Terry, of Reeds; his brother, Jerry Lanning, and wife, Gale, of Lexington; his grandchildren: Shannon Surratt, Amanda Story, Tiffni Berrier, Valerie York, Brandon Garrison, Bobby Odell Lanning III, Joshua Myers, Chrystal Asbury and Dawn Burns, all of Lexington, and Jamie Lanning of Salisbury; and five great grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Monday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home of the daughter on Virgil Wyatt Road, Lexington.
