Robert “Bobby” Lee Young, 61, went peacefully to his heavenly home surrounded by loving family, on January 10, 2015 after a valiant battle with pancreatic cancer. If courage and determination could conquer disease, Bobby would have been victorious, but God had other plans. Bobby’s devotion to his family and firm belief in God supported him in his courageous battle and ultimately, gave him peace.
A funeral service will be held at 2pm Tuesday, January 13 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Ray Nance Howell IV. Burial will follow at the Snider Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 pm Monday at Davidson Funeral Home.
Bobby was born to the Charley Frank Young and Johnnie Wallace Young in Lexington on September 9, 1953. He graduated from West Davidson High School, lettering in football and baseball and Davidson County Community College with a degree in soil and water conservation. He attended Davidson County Leadership Council and many continuing education offerings throughout his career. He retired as a telecommunications sales engineer after 35 years.
Bobby was a man of faith who loved his immediate and extended family. He became caregiver to both his late father and stroke-strickened mother until he became ill. He loved his church and community. His love of the outdoors naturally led him to enjoy deer hunting, family vacations, and farming. He took pleasure in securing his grandparent’s farm, established in 1913, for at least five generations.
He was a charter member of the Rowan Medical Center Whitehead Stokes Society. He served the Churchland Volunteer Fire Department, as a board member and chairman. He was of the Baptist faith and an ordained deacon and Sunday School teacher serving his church since his youth. He served on the principal advisory council for Churchland School and served on the West Davidson Booster Club. He also served on a church mission trip to Belize.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jean Brittain Young; son, Robbie Young and wife, Leslie; His grandchildren were his greatest joy, Lee Young III, and Caroline Elizabeth Young; his mother; his sister, Patty McGlamery and husband, Dudley, host of sister and brother in laws, close cousins, nieces and nephews.
