Bonnie Nifong Swicegood, 70, of Midway, passed away early Sunday Morning February 16, 2014 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, surrounded by her loving family. Bonnie will be remembered for her love of her family and her ease of making friends wherever she went.
At Bonnie’s request, a graveside service will be held 2:00 p.m. Tuesday in the Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery, where she was a member, by the Revs. John C. Woods Jr. and Gavin Pratt. The family will greet friends after the service.
Bonnie was born in Forsyth County on November 20, 1943 to Roy L “Jack” and Lucille James Nifong of Reedy Creek. Bonnie worked at Hanes and AT&T until early retirement. She then opened Enterprise Custom Frame Shop at her home in Midway until her retirement. She married Kenneth W. Swicegood on March 17, 1961, a love story that has continued for almost 53 years. Bonnie loved going to their home in North Myrtle Beach, SC, enjoying the sunshine, and working in her yard and flowers. She was a wonderful cook, having learned at the hands of her mother, Lucille and Aunt Vi Craver. She was genuine in character, always putting others before herself. Bonnie was a friend to everyone that she met, very devoted to her family, especially to her children and grandchildren. She will be missed more than words can say. “Our hearts are truly broken.” In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brother, Roy F. “Toad” Nifong, sister Ruby Nifong Kepley, mother and father in law Alice and William Swicegood.
She is survived by her devoted and loving husband Ken, of the home; son, Kenny Swicegood (Rita), daughter Tina Walters (Jeff), all of Midway; grandchildren Trey Swicegood (Krystal) and Ali Carter (David) all of Arcadia; sisters Jackie Godbey of Mocksville, and Lynn Nifong Nicholson (Robert) of Reedy Creek, and several nieces and nephews. Bonnie had many loyal friends, including Karen Bostic and Thelma Leonard that she wanted to thank for their love and support throughout her life.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, 101 Hospice Lane, Winston-Salem, NC 27103 and Midway United Methodist Church (Food Pantry Fund), 9795 Old Hwy 52 South, Lexington, NC 27295.
The family would like to thank the staff at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home for their loving care of Bonnie while she was there.
