Brenda Kay Haywood Hepler, age 65, of Smith Farm Road, Lexington passed away Wednesday morning, March 21, 2012 at her home. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Bethany United Methodist Church, where she was a member with Rev. David Talbert and Dr. Charles (Chuck) Hutchens officiating. Burial will follow in Bethany United Methodist Church Cemetery with military honors.
The family will receive friends in the church Sanctuary from 9:30 until 11:00 pm prior to the service.
Brenda was born in Cabarrus County, NC December 23, 1946 to Fred Haywood and Dorothy Robinson Haywood. She was a retired teacher, having taught at Central Davidson Middle School; was a member of the National Teachers Association and the State Employee Retirement Association. Brenda was a graduate of Pfeiffer College; a veteran of the US Marine Corp. stationed at Marine Headquarters in Arlington, VA, charter member of Women’s Military Memorial in Arlington, member of women’s Marine Association, Amvets Post #13, helped to establish the Marine Corp League of Davidson County. She was preceded in death by her father and step-mother Fred and Margie Haywood; Mother and step-father, Dorothy and Millard Query and her sisters, Shirley Beam and Joyce McNair.
Surviving are her husband, Lonnie R. Hepler; two daughters, Rachel Buchanan and husband Rich of Brooklyn, NY; Elisabeth Johnson and husband Tim of Lexington; grandchildren, Mitchell and Elisa Chandler; step-grandchildren, Nicole and Megan Johnson; sister, Gail Haywood Shinn and husband Michael of China Grove; brother-in-law, Clayton Hepler and wife Margaret of Thomasville; nephews, David Shinn, Philip and Nathan Hepler.
