Brenda Kay Zappia, peacefully departed this life on December 29, 2025, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, just a few days after her birthday. Born on December 20, 1961, Brenda lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to caring for others.
Brenda was born in Forsyth County to Donna Proveau where she spent her formative years. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to graduate from Bluefield State College in West Virginia in 1994, earning her bachelor’s degree in nursing. This marked the beginning of a fulfilling career where she touched countless lives.
Brenda dedicated more than a decade of her life to caring for others at Princeton Hospital as a Palliative Care Nurse, offering comfort and support to those in the last days of their lives. Her commitment was also shown as she served as a Day Surgery Charge Nurse near the end of her career. Throughout her career in nursing, she mentored many friends and coworkers, always ready to lend a helping hand and share her knowledge.
Care for others perfectly encapsulated her approach to life. Brenda's caring and detail-oriented nature made her a source of strength and comfort for her family and friends. She found joy in nurturing those she loved, always ensuring they felt that love and support. Her family tradition of cooking for family was a highlight, especially her family recipe for spaghetti sauce, which was considered the best.
Along with her parents, Brenda is preceded in death by her son, Neil Zappia.
Brenda leaves behind her husband, Thomas Zappia; son, Nicholas Ryan Zappia; granddaughter, Angelina Zappia and grandson Calix Zappia. She also leaves behind many friends.
Brenda will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and dedication to others will continue to inspire those whose lives she touched.
