After a twenty-two year battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Bruce Lee Halverson, age 58 passed away at The Oaks at Forsyth on Monday, June 28, 2010.
His family and friends will gather to celebrate his life with a memorial service at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at First Baptist Church of Winston-Salem with the Dr. David Hughes officiating. A visitation will follow after the service.
Bruce was born on September 2, 1951 in Anchorage, AK, to Lester Peter Halverson and Maxine Marie McCaleb Halverson. Bruce grew up in Odenton, MD where he graduated from Arundel High School, was a star athlete and acquired his Eagle Scout. He continued his education at Wake Forest University where he received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees.
Bruce was very active with his children in community sports. He was a member and ordained deacon at First Baptist Church of Winston-Salem where he also taught Sunday school and was active in the TV Ministry and Royal Ambassadors.
Prior to retirement, Bruce worked for Forsyth Industrial Systems/CenterPoint Human Services. During this time he served on numerous mental health boards.
Surviving are his wife Roper Osborne Halverson of Winston-Salem, his son Doug Halverson of Chapel Hill, NC, his daughter Leigh Ann Halverson of Jefferson City, Missouri; his parents, Lester Peter Halverson and Maxine Marie McCaleb Halverson of Advance; his sister, Barbara Davidson and husband Don of New York;
his aunts, Jean Cass, Randina Poels and Adeline Bakken; a cousin, Mike Cass; brother and sister in-laws, CD and Judy Osborne, Tony and Leigh Walters; his nephews, Erick, Jon Peter, Bryan, Charles and Michael; and his niece, Erin.
