Bruce Lohr

June 11, 1928 — March 2, 2014

R. Bruce Lohr, 85, of Lantern Lane, Lexington, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2014 at Hinkle Hospice House after a period of declining health. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 P.M. Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Family Life Center of First Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Rev. Matthew Miller officiating. Visitation will follow the service. Bruce was born June 11, 1928 in Davidson County, to the late Herbert M. Lohr and Mary Parks Lohr. Also preceding him in death was his wife of 58 years, Rosalie Lassiter Lohr, and his brother, Fred Lee Lohr. He was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church his entire life, serving as President of the Church Counsel. He served on the Building Committee for the N.C. Lutheran Synod Homes for the Aged. He was a longtime member of the Lexington Civitan Club, serving as President, and was also a former member of the Salvation Army Board of Directors. He served on the Food Donation program with Crisis Ministry. A benevolent man, Bruce donated his time and resources to many charities and was known as a truly generous man. Also, he was a lifelong fan and supporter of Duke University athletics. He was owner and operator of Southern Services, Inc. heating and air conditioning for 50 years, and at the time of his retirement he sold the business to his employees. He dined daily at his family’s restaurant, the Southern Lunch, meeting his Breakfast Bunch often. He was loved by many and respected by all. In more recent years, he spent his life enjoying time with a very special lady, Barbara Allred. They took time to laugh together and made many trips to the coast together. Survivors include two sons, Philip B. Lohr and R. Lee Lohr, both of Lexington; two granddaughters, Sydney Lohr Cummings (James) and Mary Berkley Lohr; three great-grandsons, Lucas Antinori, Robert Cummings and Adam Cummings; niece, Freddie Lohr Fulbright (Kevin); nephews, Herb Lohr (Wendy) and John Lohr (Susan); great-nephew, Karl Fulbright, and great-nieces, Jennifer Lohr, Anna Lohr, Alison Lohr, Whitney Lohr and Kara Lohr.
