Bruce Wayne Briggs

Bruce Wayne Briggs, 71, of Heritage Maner Circle, died June 30, 2011, at Forsyth Medical Center, following a five month illness and three days critical illness. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Sunday, July 3, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Kay Fry and Dr. Stephen Pillsbury officiating. Burial will follow at Becks Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 2, 2011, at the funeral home and other times at the home. Mr. Briggs was born August 2, 1939, in Lexington, to James Robert and Virginia Hedrick Briggs. He was a member of the first graduating class of North Davidson High School in 1957. He proudly served in the National Guard. Bruce was the owner and president of Briggs Builders Inc. and recently celebrated 50 years of service. A creative master craftsman, he constructed many homes and businesses in Davidson and Forsyth Counties, in addition to other North Carolina locations. Each and every project was done to his satisfaction, in the utmost quality and detail. He left his family with treasured pieces beginning with a cradle for his first grandchild, Trey. Bruce loved his community and was always willing to donate his time and equipment for projects. He was an avid supporter of Welcome and North Davidson boosters. He gave freely of financial assistance to help many in times of need, preferring no accolades. In 2007, Bruce was honored as Grand Marshall of the Welcome Easter Parade. Bruce was a life member and Past Exaulted Ruler of Winston-Salem Elks Lodge #449; A member and past president of Welcome Lions. Bruce was honored with Lion of the year award; Bruce was a charter member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church, having been reared in Becks Lutheran Church. Bruce loved his family and was the proudest father or grandfather in attendance at any event. He loved attending many of their sporting events making many friendships along the way. His favorite pastimes included gardening, family breakfast at Southern Lunch and Saturday mornings at Lexington Farmers Market. He so loved spending time with his grandchildren, whether at the lake, at their events, in the garden, teaching them to build, or cuddled in the recliner to watch TV or nap. You touched many lives Bruce, especially mine. I cherish our years together. I will love you and miss you forever. All my love, Donna. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by an infant brother. Surviving are his wife, Donna Peacock Briggs of the home; sons, Wayne Briggs and wife, Cindy, Greg Briggs and wife, Sara, Chris Briggs and wife, Shannon, and Ryan Smith and wife, Alycia; daughter, Amber Brock and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Trey Briggs and fiancée, Anna Nifong, Taylor Briggs, Thomas Briggs, Meredith Briggs, Jillian Briggs, Wyatt Briggs, and Alex and Joseph Smith; sisters, Thelma “Pete” Hinkle and husband, Willard, Janice Warner and husband, Lonnie, and Brenda Leonard and husband, Billy; and a brother, Douglas Briggs and wife, Fran. Mr. Briggs was an avid supporter of the Welcome School Backpack Program and would appreciate memorials being donated in his memory to this program at Welcome Elementary School, 5701 U.S. Highway 52, Lexington, NC 27295; Center UMC Christian Fellowship Center, P.O. Box 179, Welcome, NC 27374; or a charity of the donor’s choice.
