Buck Mccurdy

Howard Worth “Buck” McCurdy, 89, formerly of Duke Drive, died Friday, April 25 at Thomasville Medical Center after declining health. A memorial service will be at 2:00 PM Monday, April 28, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Carl Lindquist. A private inurnment will be held in the church columbarium. Mr. McCurdy was born December 4, 1918 to Roy E. and Myrtle Lindsay McCurdy and was a lifelong resident of Lexington and Davidson County. He attended Catawba College in Salisbury. He was an executive with Coble Dairy Products for 18 years and in 1957 was the co-founder of National Realty, Inc., where he served as President and Treasurer. A graduate of the REALTOR's Institute, he was a past president and former director of the Lexington Board of Realtors and a former member of the executive committee of the Lexington Area Chamber of Commerce. He was also a past president of the Lexington Area Merchants Association, and the Lexington Area United Way, a member of the Board of Managers of Security Bank and Trust Company for eleven years, a member of the Lexington Council of the Junior Order, and a member of the Lexington Civitan Club. He had also been named “Realtor of the Year” and “Civitan of the Year”. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Lexington, having served on the Board of Trustees, Chairman of the Stewardship Campaign, member of the Finance Committee, and Administrative Board. Mr. McCurdy was also a member of Masonic Lodge 696 for 60 years and was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a member of the Oasis Shrine Temple. Two grandchildren, Elizabeth Shelby Parker, and Robby Disher preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Margaret Murray McCurdy of the home; two daughters: Winnifred “Winks” Parker of Greensboro, and Susan Disher, and her husband, Bob, of Burlington; two grandchildren: Alice Lindsey Parker of Raleigh and McKenzie Disher Hardison and husband, Bart, of Fuquay Varina; a sister, Edna McCurdy Young of Louisville, KY; and a niece, Carol Carver of Georgia. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Robby Disher Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o St. Marks Church, 1230 St. Marks Church Road, Burlington NC 27215, Cystic Fibrosis-Carolinas Chapter, 7506 E. Independence Blvd Ste 120, Charlotte, NC, 28227, or to the donors choice.
