Buel Edgar "Ben" Putnam Jr., 83, of Fairway Drive, died Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at his home.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Jersey Baptist Church, where he was a member, by the Revs. Mike Collier and Morris Hollifield.
Mr. Putnam was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Forsyth County to Buel Edgar Putnam Sr. and Myrtle Simpson Putnam. He retired as a reservations manager with Eastern Airlines after 37 years of service. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, was a member of Gideons International and was a volunteer with Lexington Memorial Hospital, Hospice of Davidson County and Southmont Volunteer Fire Department. His sister, Kitty Putnam Thrower, preceded him in death.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Bettye Marshall Putnam of the home; four daughters, Pam Korrick and her husband, Mike, of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Penny King of Greensboro, Pat Allen of Vidor, Texas, and Phoebe Elliott and her husband, Robert, of Charlotte; grandchildren Rich and Linda Whitman, Liza Whitman, Scott and Kim Whitman, Amy and Brian Hunter, Jonathan and Shannon King, David King, Carey, Caleb and Chloe Allen, and Justin and Griffin Elliott; six great-grandchildren; one brother, Jack Putnam and his wife, Jerry, of Winston-Salem; and one sister-in-law, Frances Marshall of Live Oak, Fla.
The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
