C. R. (Ike) Grubbs, age 79 of Druid Hills Drive, Lexington passed away Monday afternoon
(March 29, 2010) at Hinkle Hospice House. Funeral service will be held 11:00 am Friday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Dr. Joe Coltrane officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 pm at Salisbury National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Thursday night and at other times at the home.
Ike was born in Forsyth County, November 25, 1930 to Harvey Ray Grubbs and Ella Sothern Grubbs. He was a veteran of the US Air Force with 20 years of service. After retirement from the military, he worked for Sears as an appliance repairman for 23 ½ years of service.
He was a member of Second United Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jackie Williams Grubbs in 2001, a son Jeffrey Grubbs in 1989, sister Lona Mabe, brothers, Burton Grubbs and Smith Grubbs who was killed during World War II and a special friend, Peggy Osborne who passed away this month.
Surviving are: two sons, Steve Grubbs and wife Babette of Thomasville and Tim Grubbs of Lexington, seven grandchildren, Toshja, Courtney, Stephanie, Tiffanie, Justin, Jeffrey and Krissi; six great-grandchildren, Alex, Bailey, Payten, Mattie, Syndie and Raegan; two sisters, Lucille Henderson of Winston Salem and Macie Reed of Walnut Cove; daughter in law, Debbie Grubbs of Linwood.
