Callie Sue James Houchins, 80, of Old Mill Farm Rd., Lexington, died Saturday, January 12, 2013 in Forsyth Medical Center after several years of declining health. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Good Hope United Methodist Church with Rev. Chris Bennett officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Davidson Funeral Home. Mrs. Houchins was born in Davidson County on January 21, 1932 to Walter Lee James and Effie Bell Freddle James. She was retired Supervisor with Duke Energy with 39 years of service. She was a graduate from Arcadia School and Ashemore Business College. She was a member of Good Hope United Methodist Church, a former member of the choir and active in the Ladies Sunday School Class. Her joy was gardening, cooking and spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years Chester Lawrence Houchins who died July 25, 2011, her sister, Louise Kanoy, and her brothers, Early James, Clyde James, Foy James, Robert James. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and a very special niece, Karen Byerly of Thomasville. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Good Hope United Methodist Church Building Fund, 10253 Hampton Rd., Lexington, NC 27295.
