Carl “Corky” Reese Brummett, 84, of Glendale Road, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston Salem.
The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Sunday at Cotton Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ed Armfield. Entombment will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Mr. Brummett was born April 9, 1923 in Unicoi County, Tenn., to Sam Brummett and Ethel White Brummett. He was a truck driver for 48 years having worked for JP Stevens Trucking Company. He loved football and Wood Brothers Racing. He was of the Methodist faith. Preceding him in death are his parents; his wife, Lora Bell Atkins Brummett who died May 14, 1997; brother, Bill Brummett; and sisters, Mary Wilson and Virginia Wrenn.
Surviving are a son, Charles Brummett and wife, Linda, of Oak Island; two daughters, Carol Hinson and husband, Ken, and Kathy Garrison and husband, Wayne, all of Lexington; five grandchildren, Michael Garrison and wife, Sherry, Randall Brummett and wife, Athena, Angela Brummett, Laurie Wheat and husband, Bobby, and Kelly Hinson; six great-grandchildren, Sophia Brummett, Derek Brummett, Paris Wheat, Brooklyn Wheat, Dustin Garrison, and Wesley Garrison; brothers, Ted Brummett, Paul Brummett, both of Ohio, Raymond Brummett, and Wayne Brummett, both of Tenn.; two sisters, June Brummett Paris and Helen Brummett Alford, both of Tenn.; and one special niece, Janet Thompson.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
