Carl Wayne Duncan, 70, of Sink Road, died Sunday, October 11, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center following an illness of 5 months. The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at North Lexington Baptist Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Dr. Robert Floyd officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Duncan was born May 3, 1939, in Montgomery County, to Elmer Clinton Duncan and Mollie Lee Smith Duncan. He was a retired truck driver for Old Dominion Freight Line, Inc. He also served in the U.S. Air Force. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Duncan. Surviving are his wife, Katherine Linkous Duncan of the home; a son, Michael Duncan and wife, Jamie, of Lexington; a daughter, Carla Polen and husband, Todd, of Lexington; eight grandchildren, Michael Lane, Melissa Huitron and husband, Josue, Colton Duncan, Cory Duncan, Taylor Wilson, Courtney Wilson, Troy Polen and Seth Polen; a great-grandson, Jacob Huitron; brothers, Ford Duncan and wife, Phyllis, Thurman Duncan and wife, Evelyn, all of Bassett, Va., and Richard Duncan and wife, Clara Ann, of Blacksburg, Va.; sisters, Clara Mae Kinsley of Christiansburg, Va., Gladys Young of Kernersville, and Lois Barker of Blacksburg, Va.; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to express special thanks to the staff of Piedmont Hematology and the nurses at Forsyth Medical Center on the 9th Floor and #2 ICU. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2009, at Davidson Funeral Home.
