Carlton "Cotton" James Powell

Carlton James “Cotton” Powell, 63, of Brooks Circle, died Tuesday, December 1, 2009, at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, December 5, 2009, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, with Preacher Clyde Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Powell was born May 24, 1946, in Davidson County, to Lester Powell and Lillian Hutchins Powell Phillips. He was employed at A-1 Face Veneer, Inc., enjoyed competitive shooting and was of the Baptist faith. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jake Powell. Surviving are his wife, Charlotte Shumaker Powell of the home; daughter, Teresa Powell Bessette and husband, Deano, of Lexington; grandson, Colby Bessette; and brother, Jim Powell. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2009, at the funeral home and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Freedom Baptist Church, P.O.
