Carol Schricker Byrd, 79, of Lexington, N.C. passed away Thursday, December 8 at Hinkle Hospice House, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. Per Carol’s wishes, there will be no services. Born May 6, 1943, in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, Carol’s parents were Eugene Bright Schricker and Lillian Virginia Miller Schricker. Carol attended Longwood College and received her medical technician degree from the Medical College of Virginia. She had a rewarding career in the medical field, working at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, Lexington Memorial Hospital and retiring from Rowan Regional Medical Center. Carol and her husband, Bud, spent lots of time enjoying the serenity of the lake with countless boat rides. Her hobbies included scrapbooking, reading, sewing, puzzles and crochet. Carol’s family was her pride and joy. She enjoyed adventures with her grandchildren during their summer breaks and Thanksgiving trips to Disney World. She was Kaleb and Jenna’s biggest fan, rarely missing tennis matches, basketball games and cross country/track meets while they were in grade school. Mimi, as her grandchildren called her, made holidays extra special with Easter scavenger hunts and an overflowing car of goodies at Christmas. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 48 years, Marion Laven “Bud” Byrd, Jr.; daughter, Allison Byrd Robinson and husband, James; their children, Kaleb James Robinson and Jenna Paige Robinson; and brother, Stuart Schricker. The family would like to sincerely thank the nurses and staff of the Hinkle Hospice House for their thoughtful care during Carol’s illness.
