Carol Jolee Groth Mize, 85, a resident of Lexington, passed away Wednesday, December 22, 2021 in Lexington Medical Center. Carol was born in La Crosse, Wisconsin on August 16, 1936 to the late Wesley Austin and Elnora Smith Groth. On August 20, 1978 she married Avon Cragg Mize. Carol was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid reader, an animal lover, great cook, and enjoyed traveling. Some of her favorite places were San Francisco, La Crosse, and the North Carolina Mountains. She was also known for her beautiful award winning chalk art artwork. She worked for the Davidson County District Attorney for several years. In addition, she worked as the Executive Director of the American Red Cross in Davidson County for many years She was also a member of First Baptist Church in Lexington.
The family invites those who wish to attend the graveside service which will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Lexington City Cemetery. There will be no formal visitation. In lieu of flowers, please direct memorials to the Humane Society of Davidson County - 1120 Piedmont Drive, Lexington, NC 27295.
Carol is survived by her husband, Avon, her children, Andrew Lohr of Charlotte, and Sharon Lohr Long (John) of Lexington; step-daughters, Kelley Mize (Dion Casto) of Nevada, TX and Julie Mize of Lexington; grandchildren, Blake, Bret, and Zoey. She is also survived by her sister, Mary Forrester (F.D.) of North Wilkesboro; and two nieces, Lori and Mary Lynn.
