Carole Burkhart

Carole Koontz Burkhart, 85, of Lexington, passed away Sunday, June 21, 2026, at Lexington Medical Center.

Born July 29, 1940, in Davidson County, North Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Emanuel Whitson Koontz and Sarah Jane Elverson Koontz.

Carole was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She loved her family dearly, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed researching the Koontz and Burkhart family histories, scrapbooking treasured memories, and spending time outdoors among her flowers and roses. Carole found great joy sitting under the carport watching birds and wildlife gather around her feeders.

A talented seamstress and quilter, Carole lovingly created quilts for her family and once completed 29 quilts in a single year for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Above all, Carole loved her Lord and lived her life guided by her faith.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 26, 2026, at Beck's Reformed Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 25, 2026, at Davidson Funeral Home - Lexington.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Melvin Koontz, Mildred Snider, Pauline Lomax, Gray Koontz, Edna Morgan, Arlene Hedrick, Jack Koontz, Abby Koontz, and Florence Koontz; a son-in-law, Kevin Degner; and a great-grandson, Levi Emanuel Degner.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 62 years, Gary Hill Burkhart; sons, Randall Burkhart (Beth), Darin Burkhart (Tammy), Alan Burkhart (Jennie), and Chad Burkhart; daughter, Lori Degner; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made in Carole's memory to the Beck's Reformed Church Cemetery Fund.
