Mrs. Caroline Catherine Cook McCree, 96, formerly of Park Street, died Thursday, November 11 at Brookdale of Lexington. She had resided with her daughter, Cindy Thorp in Advance for the last several years. A graveside service will be held at 11am Saturday, November 13 at Forest Hill Memorial Park, by the Rev. Cheryl Skinner. The family will receive friends following the graveside service. Mrs. McCree was born June 30, 1925 in Davidson County to Clarence Maynard Cook and Esssie Evans Tysinger Cook. She was the personnel secretary at Erlanger Mills when the village thrived, even having an annual Erlanger Mills Day. She retired from Parkdale Mills, which is what it became. She was an avid bridge player which led to many lifelong friends. With her keen mind, she challenged her daughters in Rummicub until a few months ago. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Her husband, Plackie McCree, preceded her in death. She is survived by her daughters, Carol Koontz (Ted) of Lexington, and Cynthia Thorp (Lewis) of Advance; her son, Timothy Monroe McCree (Robin) of Boone; her brother, Bill Cook of Lexington; her sister, Jane Harris; her grandchildren, Tracie Bean (Mark), Sherri Callahan (David), Erin Buczkowski (Grzesiek), Tim Thorp, Sarah Thorp, Katie Cox (Josh), and Laura Merrill (Kyle); and her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Kassidy, and Caiden Bean, Addison and Avery Callahan, Adrian and Andrew Buczkowski, Slate and L.V. Cox, and Eloise Merrill. In lieu of flowers, memorial should be made to First United Methodist Church, 310 S. Main St, Lexington NC 27292.
