Carolyn Murphy

Carolyn Arrowood Murphy, 82, of Winston Salem, NC, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at Mallard Ridge Memory Care. She was born on December 31, 1942, in Andrews, NC, to Wayne and Bertha Donaldson Arrowood.

Carolyn is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ray Murphy, her children, Amy Murphy Hyatt (Craig) and Chris Murphy (Emily), her grandchildren, Caroline Hyatt Hinson (Trevor), Catie Hyatt, Ella Murphy Lyle (Chris), and Aidan Murphy, and a great grandson, Murphy Hinson, all of Davidson County. In addition, she is survived by her brothers, Wayne Arrowood (Esther) of Winston-Salem and Harold Arrowood (Kaye) of Tasmania, Australia.

Carolyn lived in Northwestern Davidson County for over 70 years. She was a graduate of North Davidson High School and a long-time member of Bethany United Church of Christ. Carolyn retired from Forsyth Country Day School after 30 years of dedicated service. Prior to that, she worked for the Davidson County School System and Western Electric.

Family was Carolyn’s focus. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She loved her family with all of her being and would do anything for them.

In her spare time, Carolyn enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, and shopping. She was known for her impeccable style, generosity, thoughtfulness, and kindness.

A memorial service honoring her life will be held at Davidson Funeral Home-Hickory Tree Chapel in Winston-Salem at 2 pm Friday, August 15, 2025, by the Rev. Ted Wilkinson.   The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful care given and love shown by the staffs at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living & Memory Care and Hospice of Davidson County during her battle with dementia.
