Carolyn Eloise Phipps Welborn, born January 22, 1927, to Robert Arthur and Audrey Ellen Phipps in Kernersville, North Carolina, lived a beautiful 99 years filled with faith, family, and special friendships. A longtime resident of High Point, North Carolina, she spent the last 28 years of her life in Lexington, where she found great joy and formed many cherished friendships. She passed away peacefully on March 12, 2026, surrounded by loved ones, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family.
She is lovingly survived by her daughters, Martha Cockerham (Julian) of Wilmington, Angela High (Rick) of Asheville, and Emily Lipe (Kevin) of Lexington; and her son-in-law, Ed Greer of Independence, Virginia. She was a proud and devoted grandmother to nine grandchildren: Morgan Greer (Christine), Tyler Rutherford (Jason), Logan High (Dess), Spencer High (Erica), Austen High (Daniel), Julian Cockerham, Caroline Cockerham (Sonny), Alexander Lipe (Maddie), and Audrianna Lipe. She was also a joyful great-grandmother to ten great-grandchildren, each of whom brought immeasurable happiness to her life. Her beloved dog, Beau, remained a faithful companion until the very end.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Dennis Welborn Jr., and her deeply cherished daughter, Deborah Greer.
The youngest of seven children, Carolyn grew up surrounded by a large and loving family whom she adored. Throughout her life, she embraced the role that meant the most to her: that of a devoted mother and homemaker. She took great pride in raising four accomplished daughters and, alongside her husband, creating a warm and welcoming home filled with laughter, love, and lasting memories.
Her greatest joy came from time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Whether attending their activities, helping with carpool, sharing stories, or simply enjoying their company, they were always the center of her world.
A lover of life’s simple pleasures, Carolyn enjoyed time on the golf course with friends, tending to her garden, and visiting Holden Beach as often as possible.
A woman of deep and abiding faith, she was a devoted member of Beck’s Reformed Church, where she was actively involved for many years and joyfully sang in the church choir.
Carolyn’s family will deeply miss her wisdom, gentle spirit, infectious laughter, and loving companionship, and while their hearts are heavy, they are profoundly grateful for the years they shared with her and the legacy of love she leaves for the generations she cherished so dearly.
A service celebrating Carolyn’s life will be held at Beck’s Reformed Church on Sunday, March 15, 2026. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m., followed by the service at 2:00 p.m.
The family is deeply grateful for the care and compassion shown to Carolyn in her final days. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her honor to the Life Center of Davidson County or to Hospice of Davidson County.
