William Carson Greene, age 81 of Rockcrusher Road, Lexington passed away Saturday night at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston Salem, following declining health of three weeks.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, 2013, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bob McCaskill officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites by VFW Post 3074. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and other times at the home of his son on Rockcrusher Road.
Mr. Greene was born February 2, 1932, in Jackson County, to John D. Greene and Nannie Lewis Greene. He was retired from Lexington Home Brands after 52 years of service. He was a member of Amvets Post 13, American Legion Post 8, and VFW Post 3074 where he served as past Post Commander for 15 years and also served on the firing detail. He was coach of the Women’s VFW softball team. Carson was Grand Marshall of the Veterans Day Parade in 2012. He was also an avid volunteer for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Salisbury. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Musgrave Greene, who died March 28, 2001; a grandson, Steve W. Greene, who died July 14, 2007; and brothers, Kelly Greene and Clifford Greene.
Surviving are son, William J. Greene and wife Candy of Lexington; daughter, Annette Greene; granddaughter, Tonya Greene Beal and husband, Chad; great-grandchildren, Scholar Beal and Drake Beal; brother, Davis Greene of Sylva; sister, Johnnie Lou Fritts of Lexington; sisters-in-law, Mary Hege and Ruth Musgrave, both of Lexington; and many loving nieces and nephews.
