My wife, Cathy Lynn Meachum, passed away Tuesday evening at 9:00 PM, on April 4, 2024, while resting comfortably in our home. I, Robbie, and our daughter Jennifer were at her bedside. She fought a fierce battle with cancer for 3 years, never giving up. She showed all of us what a true warrior she was.
Cathy was my devoted wife for 44 years, a loving Mama to our daughter Jennifer, and a wonderful Grammy to our cherished granddaughters, Ava and Luna.
Her love for the outdoors was undeniable as she enjoyed kayaking, tent camping, fishing, and a good motorcycle ride.
Her favorite meal while camping was a roasted hot dog over a big warm campfire. After a camp meal she rested well inside the tent in her fluffy sleeping bag. In addition to her outdoor activities, she loved traveling to Ireland and going on numerous cruises with two ladies whom she considered her sisters, Linda Fritts and Theresa Payne.
Cathy started her working career at Kaby Mills in Thomasville where she worked for 20 years. She left Kaby’s and went back to college with our daughter, and together they both earned their degrees in Medical Assisting. She furthered her education and earned her Certified Medical Assistant status with the American Association of Medical Assistants. She began her 20-year career with Atrium Health working as a CMA and a Lab Technician. While being treated for cancer, her Atrium family and friends took excellent care of her up to her last days.
Along with her mother, Gladys Lorene Houser, she is preceded in death by her sister, Sandra Lorene Surratt.
She leaves behind a host of family and friends including myself; our daughter, Jennifer Marie Meachum Tilden (Jeffery Michael); brothers, David Wayne Houser (Kristi), and Donald Steven Houser (Sue Ann); grandkids, Ava Lynn Tilden and Luna Grace Tilden; Lisa, Jason, and other nieces and nephews.
Fly high my Angel; you will be dearly missed ‘til we are together again. You are resting comfortably in the Lord’s arms.
