Rev. Cecil Ray Barnes, 73 of Hampton Street passed away at 1:35 am Saturday, January 10, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday at Pilgrim Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. James Messer officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. Mr. Barnes was born on April 21, 1935 in Rowan County to James Sanford Barnes and Marie Hancock Barnes. He was a member of Pilgrim Freewill Baptist Church, and an ordained minister with the Piedmont Association of Freewill Baptist. He retired from Lexington Home Brands. Surviving are his wife of 43 years Faye Edwards Barnes of the home, sons Bobby Barnes and wife Peggy and James Barnes, daughters Donna Workman and husband Kyle, Edna Pierce and husband Scott and Catherine Beck all of Lexington; seven grandchildren Christy Pierce, Brittany Testerman, Tiffany Pierce, Misty Potter, Tabitha Beck, Patrick Pierce and Christopher Barnes; three great-grandchildren and sister Ann Campbell of Thomasville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Monday at the funeral home and other times at the home. Memorials may be directed to Davidson County Cancer Service, 25 West Sixth Avenue, Lexington, NC 27292.
