Charlene Lanning Anderson

November 9, 1958 — December 15, 2024

Charlene Lanning Anderson, 66, of Davidson County, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, December 15, 2024.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at 11:00 AM, at Smith Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Terry Smith officiating.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, at the church, prior to the service.

Charlene was born on November 9, 1958, in Rowan County, to the late Fred Henry Lanning and Nina Murdock Lanning.

Charlene was a beacon of creativity and compassion, leaving behind a legacy of love and service that touched countless lives. Her passion for painting and baking brought joy to those around her, especially through her famous candied apples that everyone loved. A true artist at heart, Charlene's creativity paired beautifully with her natural talent as a saleswoman that truly made her one of a kind.

Charlene had a deep love for people, especially the youth. She devoted much of her time to her church’s youth group, where her contributions were immeasurable. From organizing events to chaperoning youth trips and retreats, she poured her heart into creating a welcoming space for young people. Beyond the church walls, Charlene’s compassion extended into the community, where she opened her heart and home to young people in need of guidance and support.

Although Charlene was blessed with one son, her maternal love extended far beyond her immediate family. She was a second mother to many, offering unwavering strength, care, and encouragement to those who needed it most. Her strong will and fierce devotion to her family and close friends created an unbreakable circle of love and loyalty.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Tyler Anderson (Emily), of Lexington; brother Brad Lanning; nephew, Brad Lanning Jr. (Mandy); niece, Crystal Lanning; several great nieces and nephews; and numerous friends who were considered family.
