Charles Elmer Bess

March 18, 1939 — March 25, 2021

Charles “Charlie” Elmer Bess age 82 of Lexington, is now absent from the body and present with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 5:8). At 4:00 am, he went to his eternal home in Heaven on Thursday, March 25, 2021.

He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on March 18, 1939. After graduating from Clarkson High School in 1957, he began working for Andersen Windows in Louisville, KY. Later he joined Kroehler Furniture and was transferred to Lexington, NC in 1968. He was married to the love of his life, Phyllis Bess, for 33 years who passed away June 6, 2017.

He invested many years of his life working as an engineer in the furniture industry including United Furniture (The Table Plant), Burlington Furniture and eventually retiring from Stanley Furniture in Lexington, NC. Even more important than his daily work was Christian Ministry. Charlie was a faithful member of North Lexington Baptist  Church where he served in the Cambodian Ministry, Food Pantry, and Evangelism Outreach, sang in the choir, and taught the New Member Orientation Class.

A funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Monday in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gavin Pratt officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will greet friends and family following the commital service. Covid-19 protocol will be observed with social distaincing and wearing of mask. Surviving are his loving family; sons, Tim Bess (Wendy Weaver) Todd Bess (Racheal); daughter Tammy Pressley (Rodney) all of Lexington and Terry Bess (Gina) of Winston Salem; step-son, Robert Tysinger, Jr. (Jennifer); step-daughters, Nancy Estep (Joey) and Connie Vernon (Bobby), all of Lexington; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, 4 step-great grandchildren
