Charles “Charlie” Harrison Roberts, Sr., 73, a resident of Lexington, passed away Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at his residence. Charlie was born in Durham, North Carolina on May 12, 1949 to the late Francis William and Grace Fletcher Roberts. He was a retired veteran of the US Air Force. Charlie proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. He was also an Air Force recruiter. Charlie earned the awards for Top Recruiter in the US and Top Rookie Recruiter in the same year. He helped over 300 young people make the decision to serve their country, whether it was in the Air Force, or any of the other branches. Charlie loved helping people and being around children. He volunteered for the West Davidson School District for several years. In fact, most of West Davidson’s class of 2020 lovingly referred to him as “Poppa.” Charlie enjoyed spending time outside, whether it be fishing, boating, or spending time with his animals. He also enjoyed going to the beach. Charlie was a godly man who loved his Lord. He was a member of Madison Heights Freewill Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Francis “Butch” Roberts and a sister, Jane Travis. A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date. Left to cherish Charlie’s memory is his loving wife, Judy Plemmons Roberts, of the home; a son, Charles Harrison Roberts, Jr. (Sherri) of High Point; sisters, Mary Jo Driggers (Ken) of Greenville, SC, Ellen Richardson (Grady) of Wilmington, and Judy Jones (Scott) of Hiawassee, GA; a granddaughter, Rachel Roberts of Cullowhee, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
