Charles Matthew Hedrick

Charles Matthew Hedrick, 94, of Lexington, passed away Friday, January 31, at Hinkle Hospice House.

A funeral service will be 4:00 pm Sunday, at Bethany United Methodist Church by the Rev. Benny Clodfelter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 3-4pm Sunday prior to the funeral service.

Charles was born July 5, 1925 in Davidson County to Radford and Ethel Tysinger Hedrick. He was a 1941 graduate of Southmont High School and attended the Univesity of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Charles served his country during World War II in the US Navy. He was the longtime co-owner of Hedrick Brothers Lumber Company, which he and his brother, Ralph started in 1947, and a member of Bethany United Methodist Church. Active in his community, he had served on the Board of Directors for Energy United, Mountain Vista Health Park, and Central Carolina Bank, and was a member of Central Lions Club. His wife, Nancy Trexler Hedrick, and his brothers, Dolan Hedrick and Ralph Hedrick, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his sons, Charles R. “Ricky” Hedrick and wife, Patricia, and William D. “Billy” Hedrick and wife, Joan, both of Lexington; his grandchildren, Charles Garrett Hedrick, Cory G. Hedrick and wife, Lydia, Julie Richardson and husband, Justin, and Mark Hedrick and wife, Britni; and six great-grandchildren.

Memorials should be directed to Bethany United Methodist Church, 193 Bethany Road, Lexington, N.C. 27292 or Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, N.C. 27292.
