Master Sergeant (Retired) Charles Delano Irvin 74 of Chestnut Lane, Winston Salem passed away at his residence on Saturday (6-13-2009) evening after a short illness. He was born in Wythe County Va. December 12th 1934 to James Edgar and Ella Walters Irvin. He was retired after 21 years from the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War, and was a member of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church and the Non Commission Officers Association. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Lovell Irvin on April 30, 2002.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday June 18, 2009 at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel by the Rev. Frankie Matthews and burial will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park, with full military honors.
Charles is survived by a son Colonel Victor D. Irvin and wife Karen of Atlanta Ga. ;a daughter Valerie Kitts of the home; a stepdaughter Tracey O Hogan and husband First Sergeant John Hogan of Elkin N.C.; four grandchildren Zack Gough, Kyle Irvin, Brandon Irvin, and Chance Hogan; a sister Lucille Cassell of Wytheville Va.
Visitation will be 12:30 to 1:30PM Thursday prior to the service at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel.
