Charles Robert Martin, 81, of Delta Street, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at Hinkle Hospice House after six weeks of declining health.
The funeral will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2011, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, with the Rev. Ralph Byrd officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will follow in Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service in the visitation room of the funeral home.
Mr. Martin was born April 3, 1930, in Davidson County, to Charles Taylor Martin and Tessie McNeill Brown Martin. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Mr. Martin retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1988 after 30 years of service and owned and operated Martin’s News Stand for more than 50 years. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Easter Combs Martin, on May 8, 2009; and half sisters, Jackie Brown Newell and Melanie Martin Perkins.
Surviving are his daughter, Kim Wehrle and husband, Bruce, of Lexington; son, Dr. Greg Martin and wife, Pamela, of Davidson; and two grandchildren, Callie and Addison Martin of Davidson; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
