There’s ballroom dance music playing in heaven and Eddie and Jewell are once again “stealing the show”. On July 21, 2025 Charles Edwin “Eddie” Nicholson went home to heaven to be reunited with his beautiful Jewell.
Eddie was born in Forsyth County on January 5, 1934 to the late Rufus Lee Nicholson and Allie Elizabeth Nicholson. Eddie graduated from Old Town High School and began his 31 years of service at Western Electric(AT&T), where he met Jewell Gobble. They married in 1955 and never spent a night apart, except for brief hospital stays, in 69 years. Together they owned Midway Florist and Gifts, then retired to Kure Beach in 1990 where they enjoyed dancing and teaching dancing; ballroom, line and shag locally. They loved to travel, but also loved to watch their granddaughters’ play ball. Recently Eddie was most proud of his new great-granddaughter, Lennon Layne, who has hair to match her great-grandma Jewell’s gorgeous shade of red.
Left to cherish Eddie’s memory is his son, Charles Nicholson, Jr. (Bonnie), granddaughters Allie Wilson(Cameron), Holly Cheek(Eric) and great-granddaughter Lennon Layne Wilson. Eddie is also survived by his sisters Peggy Thomas and Glenda Ellis, also many nieces and nephews which he thought of so fondly. Preceding him in passing were his sisters Helen Childress and Ruby Easter.
A celebration of Eddie’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 23, 2025 at 3:00 at Midway Methodist Church, 9795 Old US Hwy 52 Lexington, NC.
Visitation will be at 2:00 prior to the service.
Memorial gifts may be made to Midway Methodist Church, Davidson County Senior Center or the charity of the donor’s choice.
A special thank you to Eddie and Jewell’s caregiver, Christine Giovannoli, and to all the wonderful staff at Hinkle Hospice House
Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel, is honored to serve the family during this time.
