Charles Penninger

Mr. Charles Harold Penninger, 98, of Linwood Southmont Road, died Sunday, September 21 at Lexington Health Care. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, September 23 at Jersey Baptist Church, by the Rev. Don Durham. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9:45 to 10:45 am Tuesday prior to the service. Mr. Penninger was born February 13, 1916 in Davidson County to John Nelson Penninger, Sr. and Emma Sharpe Penninger. He attended Pfeiffer College and was a graduate of Catawba College. He was a veteran of US Army and a life member of the VFW Post 3094. Mr. Penninger was also a charter member of both the Linwood Lions and the Linwood Volunteer Fire Department. He retired from Proctor & Schwartz. His wife, Vera Trexler Penninger, preceded him in death, as well as his brother, John Penninger, Jr. and wife, Kathleen, his sister, Sara Knapp and husband, Bob, and his foster sister, Effie Tate and husband, Armstead. He is survived by his son, Nelson Penninger and wife, Teresa, of Lexington; his daughter, Phyllis Willis and husband, John, of Lexington; four grandchildren, Carl Willis and wife, Melissa, of Knoxville, TN, Amy McLamb and husband, Dan, of Efland, Charlie Willis and wife, Lori, and Celeste Penninger, all of Lexington; and six great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Jersey Baptist Church, P.O. Box 849, Linwood, NC 27299.
