Charles Bobo Pennington Sr., 79, of Shoaf Street, died Friday, January 8, 2010, at Lexington Health Care.
A Funeral Service will be 2:00 pm Monday, January 11, 2010, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Lewis Johns and Rev. David Shaffer. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery with Military Rites.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 6-8 pm at Davidson Funeral Home and at other times at the home on Shoaf Street.
Mr. Pennington was born August 25, 1930, in Spartingburg, S.C., to Grover Lee Pennington and Hester Barnette Pennington. He was a retired Lt. with the Lexington Police Dept. and a member of Coggins Memorial Baptist Church. Mr. Pennington honorably served his country and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 21 years of service. He received three Purple Hearts, A Combat Infantry Medal, Good Conduct Medal with bronze clasp and four loops, WWII Victory Medal, Army of Occupation Medal for Japan and Germany and Korean Service Medal with six bronze stars. He also was a member of Purple Heart Club, VFW 3074, American Legion, Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite and was also a Shriner.
Surviving are his wife Thelma Lorene Surratt “Boots” Pennington of the home; one son, Charles “Bo” Pennington and his wife, Karyn, of China Grove; two daughters, Janet Fishback and husband, Ken, of Clemmons and Vickie Campbell and husband, Dennis, of Burlington; five Grandchildren, Brian Williams of Lexington, Sarah Beth Fishback and Thomas Fishback both of Clemmons, Maggie Pennington and Victoria Pennington both of China Grove; two brothers, A.C. Pennington and wife, Edna, and Donald Pennington, all of Lexington; and one sister, Joyce Shipwash and husband, John, of Winston Salem.
