Charley Frank Young Jr., 80, of Old Pasture Road, died Monday, December 17, 2012, at Rowan Regional Medical Center, following a long battle with cancer.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, December 20, 2012, at Churchland Baptist Church, where he was an active member, with the Rev. Ray Nance Howell IV officiating. Burial will follow in the Snider Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at the church fellowship hall.
Mr. Young was born December 25, 1931, in Davidson County, to Charley Frank Young Sr. and Jane Ward Young. He was a 1949 graduate of Churchland High School, a member of Spencer Moose Lodge where he served as past governor, achieving the Fellowship Degree. Fondly known as “Cowboy” he was an avid horseman and past president of Churchland Saddle Club, he was also an avid ball player having played catcher for the Churchland semi-pro league and for many years coached little league baseball for the Churchland Baptist Team in the Spencer Little League. An avid hunter, Charley was an active and long term member of Morgan Hunt Club. He served on various committees at his church and retired after 40 years of service from North Carolina Finishing Company. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by three sisters.
Surviving are his loving an devoted wife of 60 years, Johnnie Mae Wallace Young of the home; son, Robert L. Young Sr. and wife, Jean, of Linwood; daughter, Patty Young McGlamery and husband, Dudley of Midway; grandchildren, Robbie Young and wife, Leslie; and Adrienne McGlamery Lefler and husband, Brian; great-grandchildren, Lee and Caroline Young and Brandon and Bowen Lefler; a host of nieces and nephews, and his beloved canine companion, Booger.
The family would like to offer a special thank you to Ray Nance Howell, IV for his caring compassionate friendship and an additional thanks to Dr. Wimmer and the staff at Carolina Oncology, Dr. Chamberlain and the staff of the emergency department, critical care nursing and public safety staff at the Rowan Regional Medical Center.
