Charlie E. Bean, 100, formerly of Fairview Drive, Lexington, NC passed away on Thursday, June 27, 2024 surrounded by his family. The family will see friends from 10:00 to 11:00, Monday, July 1, 2024 at Davidson Funeral Home, Main Street, Lexington with funeral services to be held at 11:00 in Davidson Chapel by Rev. Frankie Matthews and Dr. Jeremy Benbrooks. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Charlie was born September 27, 1923 to the late Gaither Reid and Dora Ethel Davis Bean. Along with his parents, Charlie was preceded in death by his loving wife of 67 years, Mozelle Weaver Bean who died March 1, 2011, and brothers – Arthur, Jim, Ottis, and Ervin Bean and sisters Louise Spry, Ester Wyatt, and Gladys Earomirski. He served his country in the European Theater during World War II in the U.S. Army as a Jeep driver under General Patton’s 3rd Army and General Dwight D. Eisenhower and was at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a life member of the VFW Post 3074, and American Legion Post 8. Mr. Bean was retired from the City of Lexington after 37 years of service. During his lifetime he enjoyed hunting and training bird dogs with his family and friends. He loved gardening and sharing vegetables with others. He was a hard worker and enjoyed spending time with family. He will be greatly missed. Mr. Bean was the oldest member of Sheets Memorial Baptist Church where he faithfully served as trustee, deacon, and usher as long as his health allowed. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Sandra Mabe and husband Tom, grandchildren, Meredith Regan (Corey), Jeffrey Mabe (Erin), great-grandchildren, Emma Kate, Olivia Hope, Curry Thomas, and Charlie Edward Regan, Lawson Powell, Landry Parker, and Aila Brooklyn Mabe, as well as several nieces and nephews.
