Charlie Dowell

Charlie Patterson Dowell, 69, of Valley Drive, Winston-Salem, died Friday, June 20, 2008, at his home. Mr. Dowell was born April 11, 1939, in Wilkes County to Robert Lee Dowell and Artie Blackburn Dowell. He was retired from the U.S. Postal Service. He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Surviving are his wife, Marian Kiger Dowell of the home; sons Mark David Dowell and wife Renee of Apex; Dewayne Chaney and wife Brenda of Greensboro; David Chaney and wife Kathy of High Point; Thomas Chaney and wife Sandy of Winston-Salem; and Woody Jones and wife Shannon of Walnut Cove; daughter Patricia Dowell Harold and husband Ricky of Ararat; brothers Fred Dowell and wife Ruby of Roaring River; Ted Dowell and wife Norma Jean of Lewisville; Ronnie Dowell and wife Lucy of Deep Gap; and Johnnie Dowell and wife Sharon of Winston-Salem; grandchildren Erick Dowell, Ryan Dowell, Lauren Allen, Summer Leonard and husband Travis, Andrew Chaney, Laure Chaney, Rachel Chaney, Michael Chaney, Blade Chaney, Nathan Jones and Charlie Jones; and great-grandchild Landon Leonard. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, June 23, at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, June 22, at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel, and at other times at the home.
