Christine Smith Trantham

Christine Smith Trantham, 92, of Centerclair Nursing Home, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2006, at Centerclair Nursing Home after five years of declining health. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, by the Rev. Edgar Armfield Jr. Burial will be in Cotton Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. Trantham was born in Davidson County on July 12, 1914, to Willie Lovelace Smith Sr. and Esther Sharpe Smith. She attended Appalachian State Teacher College and was a homemaker. She was a member of Cotton Grove United Methodist Church and a member of the United Methodist Women. Her husband, Thomas Foy Trantham, preceded her in death Dec. 5, 2001. Surviving are one son, Tom Trantham and his wife, Martha Dillard Trantham, of Lexington; one daughter, Margaret Trantham Scearce of Lexington; seven grandchildren, Christie S. Lyons, Glenn T. Scearce and his wife, Betty, Donald R. Scearce and his wife, Sherry, Tim Trantham and his wife, Kristie, and Tommy Trantham, all of Lexington, Mollie Muldoon and her husband, Bill, of Murrell's Inlet, S.C., and T.J. Trantham and his wife, Erin, of Concord; 10 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; one sister, Mae S. Smith of Linwood; and one sister-in-law, Ruth V. Smith of Linwood. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel, and other times at the home of her daughter at 239 Abbid St. Memorials may be directed to Cotton Grove United Methodist Church, 175 Jersey Church Road, Lexington, NC 27292 or Jersey Baptist Church, 2920 Jersey Church Road, Lexington, NC 27292.
