Clayton Jernigan

January 18, 1942 — January 24, 2022

Johnnie “Clayton” Jernigan, Sr., 80, of Lexington went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, January 24, 2022, at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 4 pm on Friday, January 28, 2022, in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor David Miller officiating.

The family will receive friends from 3 pm until 4 pm prior to the service at the Funeral Home.

Clayton was born in Green Sea, SC on January 18, 1942, to Johnnie Bert Jernigan and Bertha Bell Williams Jernigan. He was retired from Rexam, having worked in maintenance and was a born-again Christian who was proud to share his faith. Clayton proudly served his country in the United States Air Force during Vietnam. He was such a giving soul, anything you needed, he would drop whatever he was doing to help you out, no matter your circumstance. His family was always most important to him, and he has been known to spoil numerous children and grandchildren. We are sure to see a difference in this world because of the impact he had upon the life of children. Clayton was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother whose memory will be cherished forevermore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Johnnie Clayton Jernigan, Jr.; and a sister, Helen Williamson.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Jenny Jernigan; his children, Mike Jernigan (Jatana), Bertha Jean Jernigan, and Bethany Lourdes Jernigan; his brothers, Shorty Jernigan (Linda), and Larry Neal Jernigan; his sisters, Jeanette Harrelson (Larry), and Judy Wiseman; seven grandchildren, Ashley Jernigan (Josh Guy), Matthew Jernigan (Chelsea), Carrie Jernigan (Terrance Mathieu), Dylan Jernigan, Devon Jernigan, Jordyn Jernigan, and Leanna Hildebrand; his great-grandchildren, Starlette, Brooks, Harrison, Leland, and Taylynn; numerous nieces and nephews; and a host of other extended family and friends.

Memorials may be directed to the Gary Sinise Foundation at PO Box 368, Woodland Hills, CA 91365 or to Save America at www.winred.com.
