Cleora Roberts Sechrest

Cleora Roberts Sechrest, 99, of Lexington, Cherry Grove Beach, SC and Rocky Mount, died Wednesday, March 25, 2009, in Canton, Ga. Mrs. Sechrest was born November 28, 1909, in Lancaster, SC, the youngest of the nine children of Samuel B. and Ellen Montgomery Roberts, and was preceded in death by brothers, Lewis and Herman and sisters, Cora, Vertie, Mary, Norma, Lillian and Nettie. Mrs. Sechrest was married March 11, 1933, to Ray F. Sechrest who died November 26, 1964. They had two children, Nancy S. (Mrs. Thomas L.) Young of North Myrtle Beach, SC and Raye S. Snell of Canton, GA, both of whom survive. Mrs. Sechrest is also survived by six grandchildren and spouses, George F. and Dena G. Young of Rocky Mount, NC, Elizabeth Y. Blackmon of Jacksonville, FL, David E. and Sonya D. Young of Wrightsville Beach, NC, Lee M. and Susan W. Young of Charlotte, NC, D.J. Snell of Winter Park, FL, and Andrea S. and Jason Moyers of Frisco, Texas; twelve great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and nieces and nephews. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Lancaster, SC, Lakeside Baptist Church of Cherry Grove Beach, SC, First Evangelical Reformed Church of Lexington, NC and First Baptist Church of Rocky Mount, NC. She graduated from the public schools of Lancaster, SC and Winthrop College, taught for 27 years in the public schools of SC, and following her retirement operated private kindergarten schools in Lexington, NC and Cherry Grove Beach, SC. She was a member and an officer of the Garden Clubs of Lexington and Ocean Drive, SC, was active in the American Legion Auxiliary, and traveled extensively in later life. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel in Lexington. The family requests that flowers be omitted. The family also wishes to gratefully acknowledge the affectionate care provided to Mrs. Sechrest during her declining years by Joan Joyner, Rosetta Sharpe, Mary Perkins, Christine Smith, Annie Pittman, Edna Robinson, and Emma Dortch of Rocky Mount, by Evelyn Askew and Gladys Martin of Canton, Ga., and the kindness and affection provided to her by members of New Covenant Bible Church of Canton, Ga.
