Clifford Jacob “Cliff” Lopp, Sr., age 89 of Lexington passed away Saturday afternoon at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robin Keating officiating. Inurnment will follow in Lexington City Cemetery with Military rites by Davidson County Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 9:30 until 10:45 prior to the service.
Cliff was born in Davidson County June 24, 1925 to Henry Irving and Annie Emma Beck Lopp. He was a graduate of Lexington High School Class of 1942; attended High Point College and was a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill, was Vice-President for Craven and Mountcastle Insurance Agency until his retirement; he was a member of First United Church of Christ where he was Elder Emeritus and a Sunday School Teacher; a Mason and member of Memorial Lodge No.696 which merged with Lexington Memorial Lodge No. 473, a Past Master and 50 year member award; member of Scottish Rite in Greensboro and a 50 year member; Davidson County Republican Party Hall of Fame; served on North Carolina Optician board for 8 years; Tar Heel Racing Pigeon Club; charter and lifetime member of Davidson County Genealogy Society. Cliff was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Corp with the 379th Bomb Group during World War II, serving in Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe as an Aerial Gunner; lifetime member of DAV; member of Amvets Post 13; American Legion Post 8; a member of VFW Post 3074 where he served as Commander and was a member of the VFW Honor Guard and took great pride in giving final rites to many comrades from 1945 until his health failed him. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Lori DeLynn Lopp Floyd; brothers, Banks, Paul, Meade, Harold, Frank and Doug Lopp; sisters, Lee Lopp, Annie Mae Lopp Caddell and Pauline Lopp Westmorland.
Cliff is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Eloise Smith Lopp of the home; sons, James Irving Lopp (Connie), Paul Franklin Lopp (Tammy), Clifford Jacob Lopp, Jr.(Paula) and John Philip Lopp (Jane); grandchildren, Katie Leanne Lopp Young (Joseph), Jameson Fitzpatrick Lopp, Keri Denise Lopp Hartle (Casey) and Ashlee Dawn Lopp Snider; great-grandchildren, Jonah Lee Young, Jacob Donevant and Emma Kathryn Hartle.
The family would like to thank Alpha Health Care and Hospice of Davidson County for all their love and support given to Cliff and family during his illness.
