Clifton “Cliff” McPherson Leonard, Sr., age 90 of Carolina House formerly of Westover Drive, Lexington passed away Wednesday morning February 22, 2012 at Lexington Medical Center.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday February 24, 2012, at the Mausoleum Chapel of Forest Hill Memorial Park with Dr. Lee Zehmer officiating.
There will be no public visitation, however Mr. Leonard will remain at Davidson Funeral Home for public viewing from 5:00 until 7:00 pm Thursday and from 8:00 until 10:00 am Friday.
Cliff was born in Davidson County, May 21, 1921 to Numa Anderson Leonard and Lillie King Leonard. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, having served as a Deacon and Elder; he was a graduate of Lexington High School class of 1934, Jones Business School and University of Colorado; he was a veteran of the US Air Force, was stationed in Alaska and the Alentins Islands; member of the American Legion Post 8; was a lifetime member of the Lexington Jaycees; served as Vice President of Lexington Chamber of Commerce; served as Vice President of Budget Committee and Director of the United Way of Davidson County; former member of Lexington Lions club and Optimist Club of Lexington; retired member of “SCORE and SHIP; and a retired employee of Champion International. His greatest joy was volunteering at Lexington Memorial Hospital. Cliff was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elizabeth “Lib” Huband Leonard in 2006; daughter, Jane (Penny) Williams; grandson, Brantley Williams; sister, Ruby Styers; brothers, Jack and Frank Leonard.
Cliff is survived by his son, Clifton (Macky) Leonard, Jr. of South Salem, NY; three grandchildren, Melissa Tellez and husband Joel, Michael Williams and wife Erica and Colby Williams; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris (Dot) Crotts of Lexington.
