Clois Gilmer “Shorty” Beck, 89, of E. Old Highway 64, died Monday, August 9, 2010, at Hinkle Hospice House.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Hedrick’s Grove United Church of Christ, where he was a lifelong member, with the Revs. William Sowers and David Crook officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
Mr. Beck was born September 8, 1920, in Davidson County, to John Henry and Iva Lohr Beck. He was married to Della Mae Davis, who preceded him in death October 30, 1996. He was a paint contractor. Also preceding him in death were four brothers, Lohr Beck, Cromer Beck, Odell Beck and Lawrence Beck; and a sister, Kathleen Beck Thompson.
Surviving are three sons, Larry Gilmer Beck and wife, Sue, Johnny Shelton Beck and wife, Sydney, and Tommy Davis Beck and wife, Kay; five grandchildren, Elizabeth Beck Cross, Julie Christie Beck, Ashley Beck Gentry, Johnny Shelton Beck Jr., and Lisa Beck Edwards; six great-grandchildren, Mikayla Simone Cross, Austin Davis Cross, Sydney Paxton Gentry, Davis Aidan Todd Beck, Emma Kaylen Mae Edwards, and Brian Levi Edwards; and a brother, Joe Beck.
The family wishes to thank all of his caregivers at Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville, Centerclair, The Brian Center in Lexington, Thomasville Medical Center, and Hinkle Hospice House. A special thanks of appreciation is sent from the immediate family to a very devoted nephew, Jerry Beck Thompson.
