Clyde Elwood Conrad, 81, of Arland Drive, died Thursday, July 13, 2006, at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem after two years of declining health.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Holly Grove Lutheran Church, where he was a member, by the Revs. John Mocko and Butch Conrad. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mr. Conrad was born Oct. 8, 1924, in Davidson County to Adam Efird Conrad and Ada Byerly Conrad. He was a self-employed log cutter, a former member of the Silver Valley Civitans and a volunteer with Davidson County Meals on Wheels. At his church, he was a member of Lutheran Men and Missions and was a volunteer in Holly Grove Church Children's Nursery for more than 30 years. He was preceded in death by four brothers, J.B. Conrad, Simon Conrad, Avery Conrad and Cromer Conrad; and three sisters, Marcella Kennedy, Thelma Younts and Edith Fritts.
Surviving are his wife, Maxine Harris Conrad of the home; a son, David Conrad and his wife, Sara, of Lincoln, Neb.; a daughter, Patti Brewer and her husband, Frank, of Archdale; three grandchildren, Sarah Lockett and her husband, Steve, of Asheville, Adam Conrad and William Conrad, both of Lincoln, Neb.; three brothers, John Conrad and his wife, Minnie, Paul Conrad and his wife, Carolina, and Carl Conrad and his wife, Etta Lee, all of Lexington; a sister, Betty Roberts and her husband, Bill, of Lexington; a special nephew, Jimmy Page of Greensboro; and several other nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington and other times at the home.
