Clyde James Houck, 83, of Davidson County, passed away peacefully on January 21, 2026. Born on December 21, 1942, in Ashe County, Clyde was the son of the late Manuel James Houck and Lester Church Houck.
Clyde was a devoted family man who always placed his loved ones first. He cherished every moment spent with his family and took great joy in the time they shared together. One of his greatest treasures was the tradition of family dinners held every Sunday, where countless unforgettable memories were made—especially with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he truly adored.
He also found happiness outdoors, whether tending to his garden, mowing, doing yard work, or growing and harvesting vegetables. He also was a hardworking carpenter, as he took deep pride in tinkering and building things for his family. These simple pleasures reflected his hardworking nature and appreciation for life’s everyday blessings.
In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his brothers, Edward Houck, Millard Houck, and Don Houck, and his sisters, Dorothy Taylor, Connie Walton, and Lula Michael.
Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 63 years, Mae Michael Houck; his son, James Houck; his daughters, Melinda Bailey (Jimmy) and Nancy Hobson; his cherished grandchildren, Brandi Segraves (Tim Mash), Tasha Wood (Blake Grantham), Morgan Houck (Timmy Stone), Megan Wood (Nick Price), and Mackenzie Houck (Nate Williams); and his adored great-grandchildren, Rylee Grantham (Tristan Thorne), Nova Hill, Kohlson Stone, and Creed Williams, and two sister in laws: Diane Houck and Dot Houck.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home of Lexington. A funeral service honoring Clyde’s life will take place on Friday, January 30, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel. Burial will follow at the Houck/Michael Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Blake Grantham, Tim Mash, Timmy Stone, Nate Williams, Tristan Thorne, and Tim Segraves.
Clyde’s legacy of love, devotion, and family will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
