Connie Raye Sprinkle Tomkinson, 69, of Weaver Drive Lexington, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2015, at the Hinkle Hospice Home in Lexington surrounded by her family.
A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday February 21, 2015, at Jersey Baptist Church in Lexington, where she was a member, with the Rev. Don Durham officiating services. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Friday February 20, 2015, at Davidson Funeral, Lexington chapel.
Mrs. Tomkinson was born December 18, 1945, in Davidson County, to Gilmer Ray Sprinkle and Pearl Owen Sprinkle. She was a graduate of Central Davidson High School and Appalachian State University. She taught school in Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools, Philadelphia City Schools, and Davidson County Schools. Connie was dedicated to the soccer program and the band at Central Davidson Middle and High Schools. She was active in the YMCA in Lexington, NC; teaching Slimastics and Healthy Back courses. She also served on the YMCA Board of Directors. Connie was a member of the Women’s League of Lexington. She loved sailing, target shooting, reading novels, shopping, cooking, puzzles, solitaire, and especially going to the beach in her red convertible PT Cruiser. Her foremost love was being a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Connie’s memory will be cherished by her husband of 44 years, Dr. Ron Tomkinson; two sons, Brian Tomkinson and wife April, of Augusta, South Carolina; Philip Tomkinson and wife Mariah, of San Diego, California; a brother Larry Sprinkle and wife Linda, of Thomasville, North Carolina; a sister Ginger Sprinkle of Charlotte; and her three grandchildren, BJ Tomkinson, Savannah Tomkinson, and Dylan Tomkinson.
The family expresses deep gratitude to friends, neighbors, and family for their care and support. The family also wishes to extend thanks to Hinkle Hospice staff of Davidson County who have gone above and beyond in caring for our loved one.
